Damian Taylor Mixes & Two of March’s Hottest New Releases

Damian Taylor,  (Bjork, The Killers, The Prodigy, Austra, Diamond Rings) is in like a lion... and out like a lion this month! The music industry powerhouse recently worked on two innovative electronica albums, Trust’s Joyland and Roman Remains' Zeal, both of which were simultaneously released on March 4, 2014
Toronto artist, Robert Alfons, most commonly known as Trust, returns to The Lodge to master his hugely anticipated sophomore album Joyland. The album was produced and sonically crafted by Alfons, while Damian Taylor lent his hand to the mixing. Joyland, mastered by Chief Mastering Engineer, Emily Lazar at The Lodge in NYC and assisted by Rich Morales, was released via Arts & Crafts and the album is already a favorite among admiring fans.
It has also received high praise from PitchforkStereogum,  and FaderPretty Much Amazing boldly states, “Joyland takes the house – and trance – indebted elements of TRST at it’s most danceable and blows them up from basement to stadium size.”
See Trust perform live on April 10, 2014 at Le Poisson Rouge.  Listen to Trust’s first single “Rescue, Mister” off of Joyland below.

London/LA duo Roman Remains’ debut LP, Zeal, was released through HOT Records LtdRoman Remains is comprised of Liela Moss and Toby Butler of the band, The Duke Spirit. Originally a side project, the pair wrote and recorded their entire debut album amid breaks in the band’s touring schedule. Produced by multi-instrumentalist Toby Butler and co-produced by Simon Byrt, the pair reached out to Damian Taylor to mix the highly anticipated debut album, and to help the band transition from their familiar rock sound into a much darker infectious electronic harmony. Prior to Zeal, the band released a stirring four-song EP titled, Energy You, which was also expertly mixed by Damian Taylor, mastered by Emily Lazar at The Lodge.
Watch Roman Remains’ “The Stone Is Starting To Bleed” video below.

Roman Remains will be performing at South by Southwest Music and Media Conference (SXSW) in Austin, TX on March 13, 2014.

Taylor and Lazar take a short break in the studio to pose for a "selfie."

Diamond Rings brings "Free Dimensional" to The Lodge

Toronto electro artist and Youtube sensation Diamond Rings is gearing up for the release of his highly anticipated sophomore album "Free Dimensional" on October 22nd (via Astralwerks).  The album was mastered by Emily Lazar and her team at The Lodge earlier this year.

John O'Reagan (also known as John O) got his start in the Toronto suburbs, playing music with his best friends in the acclaimed indie rock band The D'Ubervilles while majoring in art at the University of Guelph.  After getting a taste of the city life and delving further into expressionistic art projects with friends he decided to ditch the indie rocker life and partnered with his professional makeup artist/stylist cousin and choreographer roommate to come up with his gender-bending current alter ego as Diamond Rings.

Juxtaposing pop with hardcore electro and a little bit of glam, Diamond Rings recorded, produced & released his first album all by himself and received an overwhelming fan response to his over the top videos on Youtube.  This eventually led to a SXSW showcase as well as some incredible opening gigs for artists such as La Roux and Owen Pallett.  For his second album, Diamond Rings teamed up with producer Damian Taylor (Bjork, Prodigy, The Killers) and the result is an expansive & heavily thematic electro/pop record with a wide range of soundscapes that appeal to John O's influences growing up.

Watch the video for the first single “I’m Just Me”

And check out his 45 minute live performance on KCRW's "Morning Becomes Eclectic" where he debuts several tracks from the new album

Stream The Killers "Battle Born" Mastered at The Lodge!

Pretty sure The Killers don't need any introductions...possibly the biggest band in the world? I'm sure Bono might not be too happy about that statement but we certainly think they are.  Even if you haven't followed their entire repertoire, there is no doubt that these guys have written some of the best pop/anthemic songs over the last decade.

"Battle Born" (Island/Vertigo) was mastered by Chief Mastering Engineer Emily Lazar and her team at The Lodge earlier this summer and it's been incredible to be part of such an amazing release.  Produced and mixed by some of the world's biggest names in audio, the team includes Steve Lillywhite, Damian Taylor, Brenden O'Brien, Stuart Price, Daniel Lanois and Alan Moulder.

The album is due to be released on September 17th but in the mean time, kick back and wrap your ears around their full album stream on iTunes right HERE.

Enjoy!

Trust Master Debut Album with Emily Lazar & Heba Kadry

Robert Alfons and Maya Postepski of the band Trust recently dropped a video for their single “Bulbform” off of their upcoming debut album "TRST" (Arts & Crafts).  The album is slated to hit stores on February 28th, 2012. Postepski is known as the drummer/programmer for popular electronic group Austra and is currently focusing her production/writing skills on her new band with Alfons.  Mixed by long time friend to The Lodge, Damian Taylor (Bjork, Prodigy, UNKLE) the album was then mastered by Emily Lazar & Heba Kadry.

"TRST" is a gorgeous album blending in a mixture of rich jarring synths, blazing beats, a little bit of new wave complimented by Alfons' strikingly dark vocals.  Check out the video for “Bulbform” below and their recently BNM'd track "Sulk" on Pitchfork.

The Lodge Masters Music for Björk's Epic Multimedia Release "Biophillia"

Visionary Icelandic pop icon Björk is set to release her upcoming multimedia project "Biophillia" later this year. The music for the release- including a 10 song album and 10 musical iPad apps themed after each song's scientific subject matter- was mastered at The Lodge this March by Emily Lazar and Joe LaPorta alongside Björk and her long-time engineer Damian Taylor.

Intended to blur the lines between science and music, the "Biophillia" project also consists of a handful of fascinating instruments that Björk and Taylor invented themselves, a new interactive website based on the solar system and constellations, as well as future collaborations with local scientists and educational facilities in each of the 8 cities she plans to tour over the next few years in unique 6-week residencies.
