The band’s iconic female lead vocalist, Kathleen Hanna, got her start as the lead singer of the 90’s punk rock band Bikini Kill, and became known as the pioneer of the radical feminist movement, Riot Grrrl.  After several EP’s and occasional collaborations with major artists like Nirvana and Joan Jett, the band dissipated in 1997.

In 1997, Hanna, began writing and producing music for a project by the name of Julie Ruin.  While collaborating with friends to create a live version of the Julie Ruin, the group Le Tigre formed.  It wasn’t until 2010 that The Julie Ruin project grew into the full five-member crew.  Band members include, Bikini Kill band-mate Kathi Wilcox, Carmine Covelli, Sara Landeau, and Kenny Mellman.

While Run Fast was produced independently by Hanna, the band rehearses in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and records at OscilloscopeSPIN recently described the album as "a raucous album that unites Hanna's songwriting strengths — punk wailing, pop hooks, '60s girl-group harmonies, synthy squelches, and of course, lyrics that waver between polemical and terribly personal."
