Damian Taylor Mixes & Two of March’s Hottest New Releases

Damian Taylor,  (Bjork, The Killers, The Prodigy, Austra, Diamond Rings) is in like a lion... and out like a lion this month! The music industry powerhouse recently worked on two innovative electronica albums, Trust’s Joyland and Roman Remains' Zeal, both of which were simultaneously released on March 4, 2014. 

Toronto artist, Robert Alfons, most commonly known as Trust, returns to The Lodge to master his hugely anticipated sophomore album Joyland. The album was produced and sonically crafted by Alfons, while Damian Taylor lent his hand to the mixing. Joyland, mastered by Chief Mastering Engineer, Emily Lazar at The Lodge in NYC and assisted by Rich Morales, was released via Arts & Crafts and the album is already a favorite among admiring fans.  

It has also received high praise from Pitchfork, Stereogum,  and Fader. Pretty Much Amazing boldly states, “Joyland takes the house – and trance – indebted elements of TRST at it’s most danceable and blows them up from basement to stadium size.”

London/LA duo Roman Remains’ debut LP, Zeal, was released through HOT Records Ltd.  Roman Remains is comprised of Liela Moss and Toby Butler of the band, The Duke Spirit. Originally a side project, the pair wrote and recorded their entire debut album amid breaks in the band’s touring schedule. Produced by multi-instrumentalist Toby Butler and co-produced by Simon Byrt, the pair reached out to Damian Taylor to mix the highly anticipated debut album, and to help the band transition from their familiar rock sound into a much darker infectious electronic harmony. Prior to Zeal, the band released a stirring four-song EP titled, Energy You, which was also expertly mixed by Damian Taylor, mastered by Emily Lazar at The Lodge.

The Killers Celebrate Christmas in L.A. & Release Greatest Hits Album

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in L.A.!  For the past eight years, The Killers have released a Christmas single on World Aids Day in partnership with Product (RED).  The Lodge annually teams up with The Killers to help give back and support this great cause. All of the song’s proceeds are then donated to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS.

This year’s holiday track titled “Christmas in L.A.” was mastered at The Lodge by Emily Lazar and assisted by Rich Morales.  The Lodge has happily donated their mastering services to the band for all of their annual holiday singles since 2011.  Holiday tracks mastered at The Lodge include “Boots,” “Feel it My Bones,” and “Christmas in L.A.”

This year, The Killers enlisted the help of folk rockers Dawes, as well as Owen Wilson and Harry Dean Stanton for the music video.  The Killer’s front man, Brandon Flowers told the U.K.’s Metro, “The song is about a struggling actor in L.A. who misses the traditional Christmas.”

In addition to “Christmas in L.A.”, the band recently released their very first greatest hits compilation, Direct Hits.  The album is comprised of tracks from all four previous studio albums plus several new additions including “Shot At The Night,” which was produced by M83’s Anthony Gonzales and “Just Another Girl,” produced by Stuart Price, both of which were mastered at The Lodge.

Stream The Killers "Battle Born" Mastered at The Lodge!

Pretty sure The Killers don't need any introductions...possibly the biggest band in the world? I'm sure Bono might not be too happy about that statement but we certainly think they are.  Even if you haven't followed their entire repertoire, there is no doubt that these guys have written some of the best pop/anthemic songs over the last decade.

"Battle Born" (Island/Vertigo) was mastered by Chief Mastering Engineer Emily Lazar and her team at The Lodge earlier this summer and it's been incredible to be part of such an amazing release.  Produced and mixed by some of the world's biggest names in audio, the team includes Steve Lillywhite, Damian Taylor, Brenden O'Brien, Stuart Price, Daniel Lanois and Alan Moulder.

The album is due to be released on September 17th but in the mean time, kick back and wrap your ears around their full album stream on iTunes right HERE.

It's been 4 years since The Killers have released a studio album and the wait is ALMOST over folks! Anthemic synth-pop wizards have returned with a catchy lead single "Runaways" from forthcoming album "Battle Born"(due to be released September, 2012).

Ronnie Vannucci (of The Killers) Masters Solo Album with Emily Lazar & Joe LaPorta at The Lodge

Ronnie Vannucci, best known as the drummer in pop/rock group The Killers released his debut solo album under the moniker Big Talk on July 19th, via his own imprint  Little Oil/Epitaph Records. The eponymous release was mastered at The Lodge by Emily Lazar and Joe LaPorta. 

Overlooking Greenwich Village, The Lodge is one of New York’s most  successful and unique mastering studios; catering to artists that seek an alternative and more personalized approach to mastering. The Lodge’s gear list pays homage to mastering studios of the past; equipped with a slew of vintage outboard gear that has attracted a wide spectrum of artists, including: David Bowie, Foo Fighters, The Shins, Lou Reed, RZA (Wu Tang Clan), Vampire Weekend, Garbage, Depeche Mode, Tiësto, Vanessa Carlton, Morrissey, BT, Natalie Merchant, The Prodigy, Destiny’s Child, and Moby - just to name a few.

New Mt. Desolation Daytrotter Session!

Just this week, alt-country supergroup Mt. Desolation stopped by The Horse Shack in Rock Island, Illinois for an awesome set of live recordings as part of the famous, ongoing musical series dubbed The Daytrotter Sessions. The band released their self-titled debut, mastered at The Lodge by Chief Mastering Engineer Emily Lazar and Mastering Engineer Joe LaPorta, on October 19, 2010 via Interscope Records.

Mt. Desolation began in 2009 with a casual conversation between Keane's Tim Rice-Oxley and Jesse Quin of their mutual interest in American folk and country music. In the following months, the two began exchanging ideas for songs, and eventually decided to make an album with the gathered material. To complete the band, Tim and Jesse called upon a number of talented friends and fellow musicians including Ronnie Vannucci of The Killers, Winston Marshall of Mumford & Sons, John Roderick of The Long Winters, and Tom Hobden of Noah And The Whale. When it came time to record, Mt. Desolation flew New York-based Grammy Award-winning producer Emery Dobyns (Suzanne Vega, Mary J. Blige, Patti Smith, Chief), all the way to London for three weeks of studio time. The resulting debut is a intimate, rustic collection of beautiful crafted songs, rich in acoustics and woodsy, atmospheric subtleties.

The Killers' iTunes Christmas Song Mastered At The Lodge!

It's beginning to sound a lot like Christmas! Las Vegas pop-rock band The Killers have just released their 5th annual original holiday song, "Boots," along with a charming music video directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite). The year's seasonal tune was mastered by Chief Mastering Engineer Emily Lazar and Mastering Engineer Joe LaPorta at The Lodge and was released in partnership with Starbucks' Share and (Red) HIV/AIDS awareness program. Every time the"Boots" music video is viewed, Starbucks will donate 5 cents to the Global Fund to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa, so help make the world a better place and enjoy a new song by The Killers all at once!
